Campfire Politics is a curated progressive political digest - the best thinking from across the left, delivered with a wry eye and zero patience for bullshit. Think of it as The Week, but with a backbone.

Campfire Originals run on weekdays. These are pieces written by our team - essays, analysis, and the occasional well-earned rant about things that matter.

Who We Are
We’re a crew of writers, analysts, and troublemakers who’ve been doing this work for a long time. Collectively, we’ve run for office, broken national security stories, written definitive histories, built pro-democracy infrastructure, and been yelling about politics on the internet since before most people knew what a blog was.
The team includes Darcy Burner (former politician, tech geek, reverse-engineering power for the sake of people since 2005), Dave Johnson (political writer since the early blogging days at CAF, HuffPo, and his own Seeing the Forest), Sara Robinson (futurist and sharp strategic thinker on progressive politics and culture), Tom Sullivan (retired journalist and practical politics insider at Hullabaloo - “you can’t win if you don’t show up to play”), Nicole Sandler (broadcaster and producer behind the Nicole Sandler Show), Meteor Blades (long-time voice at The Journal of Uncharted Blue Places), Micah Sifry (author, democracy builder, and creator of The Connector and the ProDemStack ecosystem), Marcy Wheeler (national security and legal analyst at emptywheel - one of the sharpest minds in political journalism), Mike Lux (political strategist and organizer at Soul of the Party - still very much in the fight), Jeff Hauser (accountability journalist running the Revolving Door Project), Rick Perlstein (historian and author of Nixonland, Reaganland, and the definitive chronicles of American conservatism), and Karoli Kuns (editor at Crooks and Liars).
We don’t agree on everything. We do agree that informed people make better citizens, that progressive ideas deserve honest and rigorous treatment, and that this moment demands we show up.
